About Fin Junkie Innovations
Fishing is not just my hobby it is my DNA. My earliest fishing memories take me back to hot summer days on Clear Lake and Lake Mendocino with my Grandmother Kate, all four’
10 inches of her, yellowing for me to slow down as I ran ahead of her carrying fishing gear.
When I grew older, I started chasing winter steelhead and salmon on the many rivers and streams that cross Northern California and Southern Oregon.
I started tying flies in 1993 after Christmas in Montana when I was fortunate enough to meet Berney Griffin, of Griffin Tools, who was close friend of my ex-father-in-law. I got a tour of Berney’s workshop and left with a selection of professional tying gear. Since I did not own a fly rod, I started tying Glo Bugs to through with my baitcasting rod.
Shortly after my thirtieth birthday I moved to Washing State and one day walked into a little fly shop in Silverdale, Washington, called The Morning Hatch where I met Mike Croft I had no Idea who I was talking to a famous NW fly tier, artist and writer. Mike and I became friends and with his patient tutelage I began my fly-tying journey.
After a few years of tying I started teaching fly tying classes in the evenings at Poulsbo Sprots, in Poulsbo, Washington. During the time I spent in Washing I started tying tube flies, for trolling, for Puget Sound Salmon and was, “hooked” on tubes flies ever sense. In 2006 I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to contribute to a new tube fly tying book, Tube Flies Two, by Mark Mandell and Bob Kenly.
In 2001, I moved back to California and brought with me my tying skills I adopted from Washington and was successful catching deepwater Salmon along the Northern California coast and trout in many of the lakes.

Behind every trolling fly that leaves my bench is a lifelong pursuit perfecting the art and function of trolling flies and specifically, tube flies designed for trolling for trout and salmon. Following my invitation to contribute to Tube Flies Two Evolution, years ago, my enthusiasm and dedication to tying tube flies has become an obsession.
Today, each fly is tied and inspected by the same hands. No outsourcing, no corners cut. Just one person with a bench full of materials and a deep understanding of trout trolling techniques across species and waters.

However, if the patterns I offer do not suit your fancy any of the flies can be custom made to order, allowing the customer to customize their own color combinations and sizes of flies.
I am always eager to collaborate with my customers to help them be more confident and successful on the water. Trout can be finicky and what works one day might not work the next. There words “never” and “always” don’t apply to fishing!
